Development of Chamber Music since the 16th Century

Presented by Trio D'AMICI:

Trio D'Amici presents an hour long programme, exploring the development of chamber music from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. The workshop will include music for dance, from both the Edexcel and OCR syllabuses, and will give examples of dances from these centuries.

The Edexcel syllabus will include dances from the Baroque Orchestral Suite - minuet, gigue, gavotte, sarabande and siciliana, and for the OCR, a selection of Pavanes and Galliards.

The programme will also include references to 19th century Viennese Waltz and Polka and their use in 20th century contexts.

Both modern day and period instruments will be used, namely: alto, tenor and bass crumhorns.

After the workshop students will have the opportunity to perform a Pavane and Galliard with the group. This allows students to develop ensemble performing skills and interacting as part of a team, it is also an important part of the GCSE syllabus. The trio will work with students to improve ensemble-playing skills such as phrasing, interpretation and observation.
